Staff Basics

How often do we hear these words, "I was given a pen and order pad at left to it"

This is a scary prospect for even experienced staff in a new establishment. Worst of all is, how does this effect your customers? To make new staff feel part of the team and confident in their role and surroundings requires them to know your systems and procedures.

If you have systems in place, regardless of the size of your business, your staff know right away what is expected of them and procedures to follow.  They can give excellent customer service with confidence and thats what we  all want to achieve in the hospitality industry.

In our 25 years of experience, we have found that, in the long term, it is worth your while to spend an hour our your time showing a new staff member around your business, telling them what their role will be,showing them their work enviroment and introducing them to other staff. Do this orientation before they begin working for you, make sure you do so during a time when you will not be interupted. This will allow time for any questions the staff may have that they were too nervous to ask at the interview.
